Day 1. Arrive Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan Today you begin your adventure in Bishkek, bustling capital of Kyrgyzstan (optional Almaty (KZ), Tashkent (UZ)). This afternoon is at leisure for relaxation amongst Bishkek's tree-lined boulevards, pavement cafes and parks. Two nights at the 3* Hotel Issyk-Kul, 9km from the city centre.
Day 2. Bishkek and about Begin your day with a sightseeing tour, hosted by our guide. Highlights include the ORTHODOX CHURCH, ORIENTAL BAZAAR, NATIONAL SQUARE and ARTS MUSEUM. Afternoon excursion by car to
ALA-ARCHA valley (a Kyrgyz National Park).
Day 3. Ashu-Kul-Tor Today you will be collected and driven 100km to ASHU-KUL-TOR gorge, the starting point for your trek. Your transfer includes a visit to 11th century BURANA TOWER (a Silk Route staging post) en-route. Tonight you will strike camp in dense forests by the river.
Day 4. Tuyuk-Kul-Tor After a picnic breakfast on the riverside meadows, you will set off on your first day of trekking. The challenge for today is a radial hike up along the river TUYUK-KUL-TOR, flowing through a neighbouring valley. After reaching the snowline we will descend back to our campsite in the Ashu-Kul-Tor valley.
Day 5. Shamshy Today you will break camp and hike to SHAMSHY valley. After crossing the Ashu-Kul-Tor river we will trek along its left bank up to a 3086m pass. The descent winds right into Shamshy and brings you to your next camp-site.
Day 6. Eastern Tuyuk Today we will hike along Shamshy gorge, ascending higher and higher up to the pass dividing Shamshy and EASTERN TUYUK valleys. After an easy descent to the forested TUYUK valley, we will cross the river TUYUK and hike 5km up its left bank along a centuries-old mountain path. We will pitch our tents on picturesque riverside meadows.
Day 7. Lake Kul-Tor After breakfast you will begin today's trek with a climb up to the Shamshy Zapadny (Western) pass. From here a brushland trail leads down to the beautiful, alpine LAKE KUL-TOR. Tonight we strike camp either on the lake shores, or a little bit further down the trail - the choice is yours.
Day 8. At-Jailoo Today you will hike down alongside the river Kul-Tor to the neighbouring valley of KEGETY. From here a good road leads to AT-JAILOO gorge. Having hiked 1.5 km further from the confluence of the rivers KEGETY and AT-JAILOO you will come to a peaceful, remote spot, ideal for the next two nights camping.
Day 9. At-Jailoo A whole day to relax and enjoy this spectacular valley, surrounded by snow-capped peaks and unspoilt nature. Here there are many possible activities - perhaps you would like to hike further along the river, climb one of the many surrounding peaks, or hike to KEGETY pass (3790m) for unrivalled views of the surrounding mountain ranges? Overnight camp.
Day 10. Tuyuk Today's adventure takes you back to the TUYUK valley, crossing one small pass at 2902m en route. After descending to the river Tuyuk you will continue downwards to its confluence with the river KOK-MOINOK. This is the perfect place to strike camp for the night.
Day 11. Issyk-Ata Begin your day with a trek to spectacular ISSYK-ATA gorge and mountain resort. Your campsite for tonight lies 2km below, an easy downhill hike.
Day 12. Takyr-Tor A day to trek over one final, low pass into TAKYR-TOR valley. Here you will find a ski-resort and mountaineers base camp. Overnight in cottages, with ample opportunity to rest those aching feet in the saunas and baths.
Day 13. Bishkek This morning you must bid farewell Takyr-Tor before completing your journey to Bishkek. Afternoon at leisure to relax in Kyrgyzstan's biggest city, with a chance to visit the museums and galleries, or buy souvenirs and handicrafts. Overnight at the Hotel Issyk-Kul - a blissful luxury after your long mountain adventure.
Day 14. Bishkek - Depart for home Today you are homeward bound, taking with you many spectacular memories of Kyrgyzstan and the Central Tien Shan.
