Getting to Bishkek and Moving On

Bishkek is in the fortunate position of being right at the heart of Central Asia, a gateway to the whole region. Good roads link Bishkek to Almaty and Tashkent, whilst a winding, mountain route leads south over the Torugart Pass to Western China and the Karakorum Highway. Direct trains run between Bishkek for Moscow and there are regular flights to Urumqi, Western China.
Within Kyrgyzstan, there are easy road connections from Bishkek to Karakol (excellent trekking), Lake Issyk-Kul (second largest alpine lake in the world) and Osh (one of Central Asia's oldest cities).
British Airways, Lufthansa, KLM, Turkish Airlines and Aeroflot all serve Bishkek's Manas airport, linking Kyrgyzstan with Europe and beyond.
